In the village of Badrana, Jhadol, Udaipur district, a couple’s 52-year companionship ended tragically within a mere eight hours. The husband passed away, and a few hours later, his wife also died. Both bodies were taken out together, and the last rites were performed on the same pyre.
Sukhlal Lohar, 74, son of Hiralal Lohar, had been suffering from asthma for several years. His health had deteriorated significantly over the previous week. Despite the family’s best efforts to treat him, Sukhlal passed away at 10:30 pm on Wednesday, April 2.
His wife, Parvati Devi, 70, was unable to bear the news of her husband’s passing. She remained unconscious for several hours. Despite the family’s attempts to console her, she passed away on Thursday morning, April 3, at around 6:30 am. Many believe that Parvati Devi could not bear the shock of her husband’s death.
On Thursday afternoon, the funeral procession of both was taken out together in the village, following traditional customs with drums. Hundreds of villagers witnessed this emotional moment. Both were cremated on the same pyre, marking a farewell that exemplified love and togetherness.
The elders of the village and the family told Local 18 that Sukhlal and Parvati Devi’s married life was full of love, dedication, and cooperation. Their mutual affection was considered exemplary in the village. The entire village mourns their passing together, making this incident touching and unforgettable for both the family and the community.
