Dhanashree Verma and Yuzvendra Chahal’s marriage officially ended on March 20 after they were granted a divorce on mutual grounds. While the couple had announced their separation, they did not disclose the reason behind their split. However, a new report suggests that their disagreement over where they would live played a crucial role in their decision to part ways.
According to senior entertainment journalist Vickey Lalwani, the root cause of their divorce was a difference in opinion about their residence. After their wedding in December 2020, Dhanashree and Chahal moved to Haryana to live with the cricketer’s parents. However, within a few days, Dhanashree expressed her desire to relocate to Mumbai, which reportedly did not sit well with Chahal.
In his post, Vickey Lalwani claimed, “After tying the knot, Yuzi and Dhanashree had shifted to stay with Yuzi’s parents in Haryana and came to Mumbai only when they needed to. Yes, this Mumbai-Haryana jhagda was one of the main reasons why this much-in-the-paparazzi-world marriage ended. Yuzi was clear that he wouldn’t uproot himself from his parents’ home and surroundings.”
Despite the claims, neither Yuzvendra Chahal, Dhanashree Verma, nor their families have confirmed this version of events. In their official statement, the couple said that they had parted ways amicably and by mutual consent.
The Bandra family court granted their divorce on March 20, just ahead of Chahal’s commitment to IPL 2025, which commenced on March 22. Since the cricketer had prior professional commitments, the couple requested and was granted a waiver of the mandatory six-month cooling period, which is usually allotted to encourage reconciliation.
As per Bar and Bench, Yuzvendra Chahal agreed to pay Rs 4.75 crore as alimony to Dhanashree Verma. Reports suggest that he has already paid Rs 2.37 crore, with the remaining amount set to be settled soon after their divorce proceedings were finalised.
