Meerut Murder Déjà Vu: Ludhiana Man’s Body Tied With Rope Found Stuffed In A Blue Drum

Police confirmed that the body, believed to be that of a man around 40 years old, was wrapped in a bedsheet

A plastic was wrapped over the bedsheet while putting the body in the drum.

In a chilling reminder of the Meerut drum murder case, where a Merchant Navy officer was found cemented inside a blue drum earlier this year, another decomposed body has been discovered stuffed inside a similar blue drum in Ludhiana’s Sherpur area. The discovery was made on Wednesday morning when ragpickers noticed a strong foul smell emanating from an abandoned drum lying in a vacant plot.

Upon being alerted, the Division Number 6 police rushed to the spot. Inspector Kulwant Kaur, the Station House Officer (SHO), confirmed that the body, believed to be that of a man around 40 years old, was wrapped in a bedsheet, covered in a plastic gunny sack, and stuffed inside the drum with his neck and legs tied tightly with rope. The body was already decomposing, suggesting that the murder may have taken place at least two days ago.

SHO Kaur stated, “The deceased appears to be a migrant based on facial features. There are no visible injury marks due to the deteriorated condition, but the post-mortem will determine the exact cause of death.” Investigators have compiled a list of 42 drum manufacturing units in the city, pointing to suspicions that the drum was freshly purchased for the purpose of disposing of the body. Police have registered a case of murder against unknown persons and launched a probe to identify both the victim and the killers.

Police are also scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to trace any movement related to the drum being dumped at the spot. Additionally, they are checking missing persons reports filed in Ludhiana and neighboring districts over the past week to help establish the identity of the victim.

Authorities believe the precision in how the body was wrapped and concealed indicates that the crime was likely premeditated and executed by someone familiar with the area.
