Diljit’s former manager also reminded everyone that boycotting a film like this, which is not backed by a giant corporate house, can result in heavy losses.

Sardaar Ji 3 will not be released in India, only overseas.

Diljit Dosanjh’s former manager, Sonali Singh, has come out in his support amid the backlash that the Punjabi singer-actor has been facing for casting Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his movie, Sardaar Ji 3. Recently, Sonali took to her Instagram handle and shared a long statement, backing the singer. She titled her note as “Always Choosing Love Over Hate” and praised Diljit for never resorting to outrage and always promoting “love, unity and kindness”.

Singh mentioned that the backlash Diljit has been facing is “disheartening and unfair” and claimed that the film was shot long before the tensions escalated between India and Pakistan.

Diljit’s former manager further reminded everyone that boycotting a film like this, which is not backed by a giant corporate house, can result in heavy losses.

She also praised Diljit’s decision of not releasing Sardaar Ji 3 in India and stated, “Diljit has chosen to respect the sentiments of the Indian public and authorities. He is not releasing the film in India, standing in alignment with the nation’s current mood, showing once again that he honours the decisions of his own country even at a personal and professional cost.”

Singh expressed disappointment and shared that while Diljit proudly carries India with him, “his own country, how quickly we forget”. Check out the complete statement here:

Diljit’s former manager went on to call him an “ambassador of India, not through propaganda but through spirit, his art, his love.” She concluded by saying that the “cycle” to target him “must end”.

Recently, Diljit Dosanjh also broke his silence on the controversy and BBC Asian Network that the project was completed before any of the current political tensions surfaced.

“Jab yeh film bani thi tab situation sab theek tha. We shot this in Feb and then everything was fine. Uske baad, bhut saari badi cheezen humare haath mein nahi hai. Toh producers ne decide kiya ki film obviously ab India toh nahi lagegi, toh overseas release karte hain. Toh producers ka bahut paisa laga hua hai aur jab yeh film bann rahi thi tab aisa kuch tha nahi,” he said, adding that the makers are aware they will incur losses. “Now the situation is not in our hands. So if the producers want to release it abroad, I support them.”

While Sardaar Ji 3, directed by Amar Hundal, is set for an overseas release on June 27, it will not be released in Indian theatres.
