Panic gripped Khamhariya village in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district on Sunday after two bodies were discovered in a well. The grim find came to light when a local woman, while drawing water, noticed a foul smell and alerted fellow villagers, who then informed the Amleswar police.
A police team quickly arrived at the scene and divers were dispatched to investigate the well. After some time, the divers retrieved a sack from the well. When the sack was opened, it revealed the body of a child, estimated to be around 10-12 years old, with hands and feet bound by ropes and the body wrapped in cloth.
As the police continued their investigation, another alarming discovery was made. A report came in about a sack in another well, just 30 metres away from the first one. Divers were sent to search the second well and they recovered another sack, which contained the body of a woman, aged approximately 30-35 years. Her body was similarly bound and wrapped in cloth, with stones tied to the sack.
The forensic team has begun examining the bodies to gather evidence and establish their identities. The discovery of two bodies in quick succession has caused widespread panic in the village and a stir within the police department.
Durg SSP Vijay Agarwal visited the site and noted that both bodies appeared to be about a day old and tied in the same manner, suggesting a possible connection between the two cases.
The police have started questioning villagers and collecting information about missing persons in the surrounding areas to aid in the identification of the bodies.
According to some villagers, the incident may be the result of an old rivalry. Others believe it could be the work of an outsider. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on uncovering the truth behind these tragic events.
