A catastrophic tragedy unfolded on June 12 when Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to London, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The aircraft, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, went down at approximately 1:39 pm local time, slamming into the mess area of a medical college hostel and leaving behind a trail of devastation both in the air and on the ground.

All 241 of the 242 people on board died, according to Air India, with additional casualties reported among students and staff at the crash site.

As investigations continue, an eerie detail has emerged—social media is abuzz over Gopal Shastri Vyas, a man who allegedly predicted the crash nearly two weeks before it happened.

Thirteen days before the crash, on May 31, Shastri had posted a chilling prediction on Facebook, warning of multiple plane crashes around the world, possibly involving prominent personalities.

His post read: “After June 7, there will be incidents of plane crashes in many countries, including India. There is a complete possibility that a big and famous person from such a country—India, America, China, France, UK—will also die in a plane crash or in general (a senior army officer).” The eerily specific forecast has left many stunned.

The post has since gone viral, drawing over 900 comments and more than 2,500 shares. Reactions remain sharply divided. While some hail it as proof of astrology’s predictive power, others dismiss it as coincidence or allege it was edited after the crash.

Supporters, however, argue that a post-edit would have shown up in Facebook’s history, and some cited the Ketu-Mars conjunction noted by Indian astrologers as a warning sign.

One user wrote, “Grandpa, your prediction came true. If only you had been more specific, perhaps lives could have been saved.” Others mocked it as vague or opportunistic.

The tragedy and the viral post have reignited debate over astrology’s role in modern society—and whether such predictions hold any real power or responsibility.
