Sonali Bendre needs no introduction. Be it Sarfarosh or Hum Saath – Saath Hain, the actress cast a spell on the 90’s audience with her charming presence on screen. Now, in an interview, Sonali reflected on her health journey after being diagnosed with stage four metastatic cancer. Emphasising on how important early detection is, she talked about the lack of awareness among people about the illness.

Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Sonali said, “I didn’t intend to do that, but I was working on a project where every week a new episode was coming out, so I needed to go for my treatment. And if I were going to be missing, and somebody else had to take over, there would be comments about it—there would be talk. I just wanted to put it out there that it wasn’t because I had a fight with someone or due to some kind of issue.”

The actress went on to add, “I wanted people to know that I was going through something, and it was okay for someone else to take over because I needed time off to do what needed to be done.”

Sonal Bendre mentioned that she did not want people to gossip about her absence. She stated, “I really needed to put it out there because I didn’t want people gossiping about it—it was all over the internet and social media. My son was growing up—he was 12, almost turning 13 at the time—and with WhatsApp messages going around, my parents would hear some rubbish, and I didn’t want false things being said.”

The Bollywood star also reflected on why cancer is not often talked about. In the same interview, she added that she felt blessed to be aware and admitted to being responsible when talking about cancer myths.

Sonali Bedre stepped into Bollywood with Aag in 1994. She went on to portray significant characters in films like Sapoot and Rakshak opposite Sunil Shetty. The actress impressed the audience as a country girl, Bijuriya, in English Babu Desi Mem, alongside Shah Rukh Khan. She also starred in Diljale, opposite Ajay Devgn.
