Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane made her Bollywood debut with the 2016 film Sanam Teri Kasam, starring Harshvardhan Rane. Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, it was reported that Mawra’s picture was digitally removed from the film’s album covers on music apps such as Spotify and YouTube Music. Now, Harshvardhan Rane has reacted to this news.

On Tuesday, Harshvardhan Rane took to his Instagram stories to share a post by an Instagram page Litmus. The headline of the post read, “Removed from the film that made her. Mawra Hocane erased by the nation she forgot to respect.” Re-sharing  this post, Harshvardhan wrote, “…National weeding.” Check out his Instagram story below.

Sanam Teri Kasam producer Deepak Mukut told HT City that he was unaware about Marwa’s removal from the film’s album covers. “They didn’t ask me, it’s their decision. Whatever our government says, everyone has to follow,” he said. Meanwhile, Harshvardhan Rane, who made headlines for publicly distancing himself from a potential sequel with Hocane, reacted: “Now they’ll say my PR team did this! But again, I assume it’s just common sense—looks like some weeding is being done.”

A few days ago, Harshvardhan Rane shared a statement on Instagram, in which he revealed that he has refused to be a part of Sanam Teri Kasam sequel, if the producers go ahead with the same cast. “While I am grateful for the experience however as things stand, and after reading the direct comments made about my country, I have made a decision to respectfully decline to be a part of ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ part 2 if there is any possibility of the previous cast being repeated,” he wrote.

In another story, Harshvardhan shared a screenshot of a news snippet which mentioned Mawra’s comments about India’s strikes on terrorism. “I respect all artists and humans of this country, that country, Kenya and even Mars, but this kind of derogatory remarks about my country by anyone is unpardonable. Am okay with losing out on followers on Instagram, but won’t allow anyone to walk over the pride and upbringing. Standing by your country is good, but disrespectful, hate remarks about other country is not,” he added.
