The Jammu and Kashmir Police carried out a major reshuffle on Monday, transferring six officials in Anantnag, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Pahalgam Police Station.
The decision came amid heightened security concerns in J&K’s Anantnag district following last month’s terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists.
As the transfer takes effect, Reyaz Ahmad, the current Pahalgam SHO, will move to District Police Lines, Anantnag, while Peer Gulzar Ahmad will assume the role of Pahalgam SHO.

In Anantnag district, there are five sub-divisional police headquarters and 11 police stations, including Pahalgam, Srigufwara, Ashmuqam, and Bijbehara, among others.
According to the order issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag District, IPS Amritpal Singh, the transfer will take effect immediately.
Sources told CNN-News18 that strict action has also been taken against Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials responsible for security near the scenic Baisaran meadow during the terror attack on April 22.
Terrorists sprayed bullets on dozens of tourists in Pahalgam on April 22, killing at least 26, in the deadliest attack in the Valley since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow group of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the terror attack, prompting India to downgrade its diplomatic ties with Pakistan on all fronts.
The Pahalgam attack sparked widespread outrage across the nation, with many calling for strong retaliation against Pakistan and highlighting the major security lapse at the scenic Biasaran meadow.
Many pointed out that a stronger security presence at the attack site could have potentially prevented the tragic incident.
