A woman in Meerut eloped with her brother-in-law after her husband refused to shave his beard despite repeated requests.

In a bizarre incident of marital dispute, a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut has allegedly eloped with her husband’s younger brother after the husband refused to shave his beard despite her repeated requests.
According to the media reports, the husband, Mohammad Shakir, a resident of Ujjwal Garden Colony in Lisari Gate area, married 25-year-old Arshi from Incholi around seven months ago. Soon after the marriage, Arshi objected to his grown beard and began pressuring him to shave it off, the husband claimed.
“She repeatedly told me that she didn’t like the way I looked with a beard and even warned that she might leave me one day if I didn’t shave it off,” Shakir told the police as reported by Times of India.
Arshi allegedly told him that she had married him under family pressure and would only continue living with him if he agreed to remove his beard. The couple had frequent fights over the same topic. Shakir said that he took the remarks as casual banter.
Meanwhile, Arshi allegedly developed an extramarital affair with Shakir’s 24-year-old Mohammad Sabir, who lived with them and kept a clean-shaven look.
The two eventually eloped on February 3, leaving Shakir and his family in shock. The pair also allegedly took some personal belongings, according to the reports.
Shakir claimed he searched for them for three months, adding that their phones were switched off, and no leads emerged.
He later filed a missing complaint for his wife and brother, and informed Arshi’s family. However, her family refused to intervene, stating they had severed all ties with her.
SP (city) Ayush Vikram Singh said that the case is under investigation and that appropriate legal action will be taken.
“He reported that his wife is missing and is suspected to have eloped with his younger brother. A missing persons report was filed, and investigations are underway,” Sing said as quoted by the news outlet.
