“There is no political agenda. The Congress has only one formula — unity.” These words ring hollow as the party is badgered by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for speaking a language akin to Pakistan, and one which would embolden them in the wake of the Pahalgam massacre.
The attack is on a post by the official social media handle of the Congress, which shows the PM minus his head and with the tagline, “Gayab.”
The Congress is trying to exact revenge. In 2014, the BJP and PM Narendra Modi came to power on the issue of Dr Manmohan Singh being a weak PM. He was attacked for being unable to control terror acts and teach Pakistan a lesson.
Today, as Indians demand strong action against Pakistan and grieve, the Congress hopes to project the PM as weak. But it’s not sticking.
The PM came back home to India, cutting short his Dubai trip. And also, when it comes to taking on Pakistan, the PM’s track record has been better than that of Singh’s government.

But things have got worse for the Congress, and there is no end to the gaffes.
Like the latest being from Karnataka minister Gundu Rao, who said that Godhra helped him in Gujarat polls, and the Pahalgam (attack) for Bihar.
There has been much outrage, with the BJP attacking and accusing the Congress of speaking the language of Pakistan.
It’s no longer about just Congress versus the BJP. It’s now about the fact that as India is fighting an information war, building a positive perception becomes important. The Congress has given Pakistan a reason to smile. And for the BJP, an issue on the platter.
Congress leaders are acting like Pakistan’s sleeper cells. Just look at their irresponsible and reprehensible statements — going so far as to deny the victims’ families even dignity in death. What’s worse is that it’s been a week since the Pahalgam attack, and the Congress is not mourning.
In fact, the demand by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge to call a special session of Parliament seems hypocritical now, with the Congress leaders not being gagged by their party’s gag order.
