Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has expressed his concern after a massive fire broke out at the Croma showroom in Bandra’s Link Square Mall early Tuesday morning, calling the incident a “tragic sight.” The blaze, which started in the basement of the popular electronics store, quickly escalated into a Level-IV emergency, with thick plumes of smoke blanketing the surrounding area and fire engines racing to the scene. For many Mumbai residents, the morning began not with the usual rush-hour bustle but with the haunting sight of flames consuming a familiar neighbourhood landmark.

Taking to his Instagram stories, Farhan Akhtar wrote, “Hoping nobody was seriously injured or killed in the Croma showroom fire on Linking Road. It’s a stone’s throw from our office and just a tragic sight to behold. Heart goes out to all affected. Respect to our fire department and first responders for their quick action.”

Take a look:

The blaze, which erupted around 4:11 am, rapidly grew in intensity and was soon classified as a Level-IV emergency by the Mumbai Fire Brigade. Dense clouds of smoke billowed through the multi-storey Link Square Mall on Linking Road, as firefighters fought tirelessly to douse the flames raging deep within the building’s three basement levels, where the Croma electronics showroom is situated. Teams deployed three small hose lines and 12 motor pumps.

“The fire was confined to the Croma showroom, spread across three basement levels of the G+3 mall structure. Heavy smoke logging throughout the premises made operations particularly challenging,” an MFB official said.

While the firefighting operation remains ongoing, officials have thankfully confirmed that no injuries have been reported so far.
