In a move aimed at tightening control over entry and ensuring ‘effective public dealing’, the apex drug regulatory body, Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), has formally notified a revised visitor policy for its headquarter office in Delhi.

During the last one week, company officials and other stakeholders were facing stricter or barred entry—creating chaos outside the CDSCO premises. Now the regulatory body has announced and implemented stricter guidelines for stakeholder and visitor access at its headquarters at ITO, New Delhi.

According to the new directive, stakeholders and visitors intending to meet the officers will now be allowed to do so strictly during the designated visiting hours—only two a day.

“In order to ensure smooth functioning and avoid any inconvenience, stakeholders/visitors intending to meet the Public Relations Officer (PRO) are requested to visit the office only during the designated time between 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.”

The order clarifies that visitors arriving before the opening time will be required to wait until the stipulated hour. “No passes will be issued before 3.30pm, and visitors arriving earlier will be requested to wait until the stipulated time.”

The notice, issued on April 23 and seen by News18, urges all visitors to strictly adhere to the new timings. “Stakeholder/visitors are requested to strictly adhere to the above timings in order

to maintain effective public dealing.”

Furthermore, in cases where visitors are scheduled to meet other officials, the regulatory authority has placed the responsibility of ensuring the “visitor exits the premises promptly after the conclusion of discussion” on the official concerned.

The tightened access policy, a senior government official said, is launched to “prevent crowding and improve security and administrative efficiency within the premises.”

However, industry representatives who frequently visit the CDSCO headquarters for a range of work-related matters—such as applications, approvals, sales, manufacturing, exports, and issues concerning drugs, medical devices, cosmetics, and vaccines—feel that the two-hour window is insufficient given the wide scope of CDSCO’s responsibilities across multiple sectors. “It will be extremely challenging for officers to effectively engage with all stakeholders within such a limited timeframe,” an industry official said, requesting anonymity.
