Pahalgam Terror Attack: The Union government has called for an all-party meeting on Thursday to take stock of the situation and deliberate on the government’s strategy, in wake of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam carnage that killed 26 tourists.
The meeting would likely be held at the Parliament annexe at around 6 pm on Thursday.
The meeting would be chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah would brief the attendees. As per the sources, several cabinet ministers are expected to be present in the meeting.
According to party sources, Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh spoke to all the political parties regarding the meeting. Leaders across the party lines have condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and have urged the government to intensify counter-terror operations.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a 2.5 hour-long meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to take stock of the situation.
In the briefing to the CCS, the cross-border linkages of the terrorist attack were brought out. It was noted that the attack came in the wake of the successful holding of elections in the Union Territory and its steady progress towards economic growth and development.
The CCS also reviewed overall security situation and directed all the security forces to maintain high vigil, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri told the press briefing.

Misri further announced that as a retaliatory measure, India has announced to suspend the decades-old Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan indefinitely. Additionally, Pakistani nationals won’t be getting SAARC visas and the Atari-Wagaj border with Pakistan would be shut down with immediate effect.
Besides the Prime Minister, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar were present at the meeting, along with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misry, besides PM Modi’s two principal secretaries PK Mishra and Shaktikanta Das.
Amit Shah, who visited the ground zero earlier today, had briefed the meeting on the attack and discussed the measures to be taken in its aftermath.
In one of the biggest attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, Lashkar-linked terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists in Pahalgam on Tuesday, killing at least 26 people, including foreign tourists, and injuring many others. The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar offshoot, took responsibility for the attack.
Terrorists targeted a group of people, including women and elderly individuals, in the brazen attack afternoon.
