Tillotama Shome Becomes Target Of Online Fraud, Cautions Followers As Her Name Is Used To Con Others
Critically acclaimed actress Tillotama Shome, known for her powerful performances in Angrezi Medium, Lust Stories 2, Delhi Crime, The Night Manager, and Paatal Lok, recently became the target of an online impersonation scam. The actress took to Instagram on April 21, 2025, to alert her followers after learning that a fraudster was using her identity to solicit favours from others.
In an Instagram post, Shome revealed that an unknown individual was using a still from her Bengali-language film Shadowbox (Baksho Bondi) as their display picture on WhatsApp. This impersonator had been reaching out to people, pretending to be the actress and attempting to ask for help under false pretences. Clarifying that the phone number being used does not belong to her, Shome urged her followers to be cautious and to avoid engaging with the individual. She also said that she had not asked anyone for any favours and warned against responding to such requests.
Shome wrote, “This is not my number. The photo being used as the DP is of our film @bakshobondifilm. It was since removed. To whoever you may be, please don’t use my name to ask the people I know for things. STOP.”
To support her claims, the actress shared screenshots of the phone number in question and a snippet of a chat in which the impersonator attempted to use her name to ask for assistance.
