Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks on the BJP and RSS drew a sharp reaction from the saffron party, which accused Congress of “betraying” Rajiv Gandhi’s soul for power.

A war of words broke out between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress after president of the grand old party, Mallikarjun Kharge, on Sunday said that Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi gave their blood to the nation, but “even dogs of RSS and BJP” have not given a sacrifice.

His remarks drew a sharp reaction from the BJP, which accused the Congress of forging an alliance with DMK that “once called Indira Gandhi a female Hitler” for power and wealth, and betraying Rajiv Gandhi.

“Indira and Rajiv shed their blood for the country. Even the dogs in the homes of BJP and RSS leaders have not made such sacrifices,” Kharge said on Sunday during a rally in Bihar’s Buxar.

BJP Reacts Sharply

BJP leader and party’s vice president of Tamil Nadu unit, Narayanan Thirupathy, lashed out at Congress over the remarks and said that it was “shameful” for the party to talk about sacrifice while being in alliance with the DMK.

“Shameless and disgraceful @INCIndia. It is shameful for the Congress party to talk about sacrifice while being allied with the DMK — the same DMK that once called Indira Gandhi a “female Hitler,” and demanded the release of those convicted in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi,” Thirupathy posted on X.

“Not only did the Congress form an alliance with the DMK for power and the wealth it brings, but they have also become subservient to DMK leader M. K. Stalin, who warmly welcomed Perarivalan, a convict in Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination case,” the BJP leader added.

Taking a potshot at Congress, he said that “even a dog would not commit such a betrayal”.

“No dog would ever mortgage its loyalty or party for power and position. Rajiv Gandhi’s soul will never forgive the betrayal your Congress party has committed, is committing, and will continue to commit,” Thirupathy said.
