Fans have been eagerly waiting for news about Aamir Khan’s next film, and now the superstar has finally dropped exciting details about Sitaare Zameen Par—a film he calls the “thematic sequel” to his beloved 2007 classic, Taare Zameen Par. In a recent interaction with his China fan club (shared on X), Aamir offered insight into the upcoming project, including his drastically different character and the emotional journey at its core.

“I’m working on Sitaare Zameen Par right now. It’s almost ready,” Aamir confirmed. “It’s not a direct sequel to Taare Zameen Par, but thematically, it goes ten steps ahead. While Taare Zameen Par made you cry, this one will make you laugh. It’s a comedy, but with the same underlying message—it’s about love, friendship, and the lives of people who are differently abled.”

Aamir also opened up about his new character in the film, which marks a significant departure from the empathetic Ram Shankar Nikumbh in Taare Zameen Par. “This time I play Gulshan—a man who is the complete opposite of Nikumbh. He’s brash, politically incorrect, and insults everyone. He fights with his wife, his mother, and even beats up his senior coach. He’s a basketball coach with deep-rooted internal issues. The story is about how he transforms through his interactions with people on the spectrum, and learns what it means to be truly human.”

He went on to reveal that Sitaare Zameen Par is an adaptation of the Spanish sports comedy Champions, a film centered on a disgraced basketball coach who’s assigned to train a team of players with intellectual disabilities.

The film, directed by RS Prasanna, will see Aamir reunite with Taare Zameen Par actor Darsheel Safary and star opposite Genelia Deshmukh. While a release date hasn’t been locked in yet, anticipation is high as fans await another heartwarming and transformative cinematic experience from Aamir.
