Kartik Aaryan wasn’t the first choice for Chandu Champion. Bhuvan Arora revealed Sushant Singh Rajput had the rights of the film.

Directed by Kabir Khan, Chandu Champion released on June 14, 2024.
Almost a year after Chamdu Champion hit theatres, it has now been revealed that Kartik Aaryan wasn’t the first choice of the film. In a recent interview, actor Bhuvan Arora claimed that it was Sushant Singh Rajput who was supposed to do this film about Murlikant Petkar. Arora recalled meeting SSR at the airport when the actor had told him that he purchased rights of a biopic on Petkar. However, after Sushant passed away in 2020, the film went to Kartik Aaryan.
“Ironically, I did a movie Chandu Champion. Initially, Sushant was supposed to do it. He had the rights to that film. Story rights were also with Sushant. He must have bought it from Murlikant Petkar. Even Murlikant sir said it in one of the interviews. I bumped into Sushant at the airport and he told me that he was going to do a film about a paralympic swimmer. We both loved acting and used to talk to each other, we discussed on the film,” Arora told Hindi Rush.
“Obviously, it slipped off my mind. Recently, when Chandu Champion was released, I saw an interview of Murlikant sir in which he said that Sushant was supposed to do this film initially. I don’t know the details of it but ironically, that time I wasn’t there in that movie. Now, I was a part of this film but Sushant wasn’t there,” the actor added.
Directed by Kabir Khan, Chandu Champion hit theatres on June 14, 2024. The film is based on the life of India’s first Paralympic gold medallist, Murlikant Petkar. It received mixed reviews from all.
On the other hand, talking about Sushant Singh Rajput, the actor was found dead in his Mumbai apartment in June 2020. While some called it a death by suicide, others suspected foul play. His sisters are still seeking justice.
