Rapper Lil Wayne found himself embroiled in a controversy after he was accused of misusing the COVID-19 pandemic relief grant money on private jets, designer clothing and lavish parties. Wayne received a government grant worth $8.9 million meant to aid independent venues and arts groups struggling during the pandemic. A 2023 Business Insider report revealed that the rapper only paid $327,000 to contractors working on tours.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Lil Wayne simply refused to acknowledge the allegations. The rapper said, “I don’t know what that mean.” His manager, Fabian Marasciullo, quickly interjected and said, “He ain’t got nothing to do with none of that s**t. He don’t know nothing about that. It’s not the way his money comes and goes or none of that s**t, but everything’s been audited and clean. It’s done and over. It’s just people fishing.”

In the same interview, Lil Wayne expressed his disappointment over the NFL choosing Kendrick Lamar to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, instead of him. The rapper admitted to not watching Kendrick’s Super Bowl performance. He said, “Every time I looked, it was nothing that made me want to go inside and see what was going on.”

When asked if he will ever perform at the Super Bowl after this year’s snub, Wayne declared that he will no longer consider doing the Super Bowl. “They stole that feeling. I don’t want to do it. It was perfect,” he said.

Lil Wayne is currently gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated album, Tha Carter VI. The project features his collaborative songs with Wyclef Jean, MGK, Miley Cyrus, opera legend Andrea Bocelli and more. The album will be released on June 6.
