If you are eagerly waiting for filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s upcoming film, The Delhi Files, you might have to wait a little longer. The highly anticipated film, which was initially expected to hit screens on Independence Day, August 15, has been postponed. Recently, the filmmaker confirmed that they are eyeing a fresh release date. Vivek Agnihotri sat for an interview with DNA India where he himself confirmed that The Delhi Files won’t be releasing on the planned date. This postponement also means that a major box office clash with Ayan Mukerji’s War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR in the lead roles, has been avoided.
During the interaction, Vivek Agnihotri confirmed that The Delhi Files will not release on Independence Day, August 15. Explaining the reason for the delay, the filmmaker revealed that they are running behind schedule. “Humne last year announce kar di thi 15 August ki release date, lekin jab humne film shuru ki toh humare jo production designer the, Rajat Podar, unki death ho gayi. Toh humare plan postpone ho gaya. (We had earlier announced that the release date of the film will be 15 August, but when we started the shoot, our production designer, Rajat Podar, passed away. Therefore, our plan got postponed),” he said.
“We are running behind schedule. I am trying… toh dekhte hai abhi kya hota hai. Lekin agar 15 August nahi bhi hui toh uske aas-pass hi hoga, bahut zyada delay nahi hoga. (We are running behind schedule. I’m trying… but let’s see what happens now. But even if it doesn’t release on 15 August, it will be out in theatres around that time, there won’t be much delay),” he added.
On being asked if he thinks that the delay is a blessing in disguise, The Kashmir Files fame expressed, “The Delhi Files ke liye date is not important, the film is important. Yeh specific nahi hai ki iss date ko nahi aayegi, toh nahi chalegi. Diwali pe nahi aayi toh nahi chalegi. Christmas pe ya Eid pe nahi aayi, toh nahi chalegi. Humara aisa kuch nahi hai (For The Delhi Files, the date is not important; the film is important. We don’t believe that if the film does not release on a specific date, it will not be a hit. If it does not release on Diwali, it will not be a hit. If it does not release on Christmas or Eid, it will not do well at the box office. We don’t believe in that).”
“Humari film, film hai. Achi hai toh kisi bhi date pe aaeyegi toh chalegi, usse kuch farq nahi padta. Date is not important, the film is. (Our film is a film. If it is good, it will work on any date. Date is not important, the film is),” Vivek concluded.
Speaking about The Delhi Files, the film stars Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, Palomi Ghosh and others in key roles.
