Sanjana Sanghi is not only working to establish herself in Bollywood, but she also works towards helping society evolve. The actress, who is a UNDP Youth Champion, recently at a meeting, emphasised the value of education in creating one’s purpose. Sanjana addressed an audience of young creators and changemakers, reflecting on her experiences both on and off-screen. While acknowledging the importance of storytelling in influencing culture, she shifted the subject to a wider issue, which is educational disparity in India.
Reflecting on her journey, Sanjana Sanghi stated, “I remember watching Emma Watson speak at the UN and thinking — this is where real impact begins. Teaching children gave me a sense of connection. Eventually, I started mentoring volunteers and building that initiative forward. I have a dream to have an organisation where no one is uneducated in our country. I feel lack of education penetration is the larger social issue in our country,” as quoted by Bollywood Hungama.
The actress added that academic access must be viewed as fundamental to resolving larger socioeconomic concerns. She believes that proper education can be the key to solving bigger issues like gender and pay disparities, menstrual health awareness, women’s rights, and a lot more.
Sanjana Sanghi made her acting debut as a young artist in Imtiaz Ali’s 2011 film Rockstar, playing Nargis Fakhri’s sister. Since then, she has had a number of supporting roles, but her breakthrough came in 2020 with the romance drama Dil Bechara. The film, directed by Mukesh Chhabra, also starred Sushant Singh Rajput. It was an adaption of John Green’s 2012 novel The Fault in Our Stars.
She was also seen in the movie Dhak Dhak with Ratna Pathak Shah, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Dia Mirza. Tarun Dudeja directed the film, which follows the journey of four women from all walks of life. The film also depicts how the women band together and set out on an astonishing road journey packed with emotions, adventures, and self-discovery. The drama transports viewers to the world’s highest motorable pass, where the women ride their bikes on a voyage of self-discovery.
