Senior TMC leader Saugata Roy on Tuesday voiced disappointment over the public spat between the party’s two senior MPs, telling CNN-News18 that he “felt very bad” about such internal conflict within the party.
It comes after BJP shared a purported video showing a public spat between two TMC MPs— including a woman leader— at the Election Commission headquarters, where they had gone to submit a party representation.
Recalling the day of the incident, Roy told CNN-News18: “I was at Vijay Chowk and was briefing the media. I heard that a woman MP questioned a senior male MP about why her signature wasn’t taken on a party memorandum. Later, we learned that the senior MP nearly assaulted her, prompting her to seek help from security personnel.”
He added that the woman MP later came to Parliament in tears and shared her ordeal with others. “I felt very bad. Our party has gone through so much, and Mamata Banerjee has a lot on her plate—what is all this happening?” he said.
Infighting Extends To WhatsApp
BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya on Monday also shared the purported chats of TMC MPs Kalyan Banerjee and Kirti Azad fighting among themselves on the party’s official WhatsApp group and called it an aftermath of an earlier public spat between two TMC MPs at the Election Commission headquarters.
According to Malviya’s X post, Banerjee and Azad had a verbal clash on the group named ‘AITC MP 2024’. The BJP leader said that the heated WhatsApp exchange took place as opposing factions took sides and exchanged sharp remarks.

According to Anandabazar Patrika, a woman MP left the party’s official WhatsApp group made for parliamentarians due to the behaviour of a senior MP of the party.
Speaking to CNN-News18, Saugata Roy reacted to the leaked Whatsapp chats and said: “I don’t know who leaked the chat but I am confident the party would take appropriate action.”
BJP leader Amit Malviya also shared a purported video of the altercation between the two TMC MPs at the Election Commission headquarters. The video shows TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee in a heated exchange with another party MP.
However, CNN-News18 couldn’t independently verify the authenticity of the video.

Spat Between TMC MPs
Sources told CNN-News18 that the altercation between TMC MPs took place before the party delegation visited the Election Commission headquarters. A day earlier, the TMC MP had signed a deputation letter on behalf of some MPs, which did not include the woman MP’s name.
The following day, when the TMC delegation arrived at the EC office, the woman MP confronted her colleague, leading to a heated exchange. During the argument, she asked security personnel to intervene and demanded his arrest, alleging misconduct towards a woman MP.
Subsequently, both leaders lodged complaints with party chief Mamata Banerjee.
