Blue Origin’s first all-female space crew is ready to blast off while looking glamorous. Set to launch on April 14, the historic mission will feature Lauren Sánchez, Katy Perry, Gayle King, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, astronaut and bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn. But aside from making history, the crew is making sure to bring some serious glam to the final frontier.

In an interview with Elle, Sánchez, who is engaged to Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, revealed her beauty plans for the space voyage. “Who would not get glam before the flight?!” she exclaimed. “We’re going to have lash extensions flying in the capsule!”

King couldn’t help but wonder if the lashes would hold up in zero gravity. “Will the lashes stay on? I’m curious,” she asked. Sánchez confidently replied, “Mine are glued on. They’re good.”

Pop icon Katy Perry, known for her bold style, chimed in, “Space is going to finally be glam. Let me tell you something. If I could take glam up with me, I would do that. We are going to put the ‘a*s’ in astronaut.”

Bowe took preparation to the next level by skydiving in Dubai with her planned hairstyle to ensure it could withstand extreme conditions. “I took it for a dry run,” she shared.

For Nguyen, the beauty choices hold deeper significance. “I think it’s so important for people to see us like that,” she explained. “This dichotomy of engineer and scientist, and then beauty and fashion. We contain multitudes. Women are multitudes. I’m going to be wearing lipstick.”

While safety is a priority, Perry had another pressing concern: “What am I going to wear?”

The six trailblazers will embark on a near four-minute journey aboard the New Shepard rocket, launching from West Texas. Their mission patch features personalised symbols: a shooting microphone for King’s journalism legacy, fireworks for Perry’s pop influence, and a fly honouring Sánchez’s children’s book, The Fly Who Flew to Space.

This will be Blue Origin’s 11th human flight and its first all-female crew marking the most groundbreaking moment in women’s spaceflight since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo journey in 1963.
