Randeep Hooda recently shared his thoughts on the state of Bollywood, emphasising the need for a shift in perspective. In a candid interview, he criticised the industry’s tendency to chase trends instead of focusing on originality. He praised South Indian filmmakers for staying true to their cultural roots, which he believes has contributed to their success.

Randeep Hooda recently criticised Bollywood’s “bhedh chaal” (herd mentality) in an interview with The Indian Express. He pointed out that the industry often chases trends rather than focusing on originality, saying, “If one thing succeeds, similar projects start getting made. Sabko wahi banaana hai.” Randeep Hooda emphasised that as an actor, he believes there shouldn’t be rigid parameters, but the industry’s current state leaves minimal room for creative exploration.

Randeep also slammed Bollywood’s growing fixation with gym-toned bodies over genuine stories. Taking the example of the South Indian film industry and the popular film Pushpa, Randeep said, “Pushpa doesn’t have six-pack abs, he has a beard and a crooked shoulder. Whereas, the so-called elite filmmakers and actors are busy making abs. They are not going into characterisation and finding the character. They are just not making character-driven films.”

Randeep Hooda acknowledged that OTT platforms have made experimenting with storytelling easier. However, he pointed out that even these platforms are driven by business, prioritizing content that attracts a larger audience and boosts subscriptions. Despite this, Hooda aims to strike a balance between mainstream and experimental projects, choosing themes that resonate with viewers while allowing creative exploration

Randeep Hooda’s upcoming film, Jaat, is an action thriller where he takes on the role of the menacing villain, Ranatunga. The film also features an ensemble cast, including Sunny Deol, Regina Cassandra, Ayesha Khan, Saiyami Kher, Zarina Wahab, Vineet Kumar Singh, Prashant Bajaj, Ajay Ghosh, Dayanand Shetty, Jagapati Babu, and Babloo Prithiveeraj. Directed by Gopichand Malineni and produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory, Jaat is set to hit theatres on April 10.
