The Karnataka government is likely to table a bill to increase the salaries of the chief minister, assembly speaker, ministers, and MLAs.

CNN-News18 accessed the draft copy of the Karnataka Legislature Salaries, Pensions and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which is likely to be presented during the budget session of the state assembly on Friday (March 21). The state government is likely to hike salaries by 50 per cent.

Here is all you need to know about the salary hikes:

Chief Minister’s Salary: Increased to Rs 1.5 lakh from Rs 75,000

Defending the Bill, the state government said this move is justified by price rise, which also affects legislators.

Assembly speaker UT Khader told CNN-News18 that MLAs should not be treated like enemies.

“Even we are suffering from price hike,” said state home minister G Parameshwara

The BJP, however, slammed the government over the move and said it cannot afford the salary hikes. “Karnataka cannot afford the salary hike…the treasury is already suffering a crunch. Siddaramaiah has completely ruined the financial condition of Karnataka,” said state BJP leader Ashok Gowda.
