The latest episode of Shark Tank India 4 featured an inspiring pitch by 64-year-old entrepreneur Champa, the founder of Krishna Sakhi, a business that creates intricate jewellery for God’s idols. Her journey, driven by devotion and passion, deeply moved the sharks.
Champa shared how her bhakti (devotion) for Lord Krishna led her to design jewellery, not just for her own idols but for devotees across India. Over time, this passion turned into a thriving business, with Krishna Sakhi gaining recognition for its handcrafted designs. She proudly revealed that her jewellery has even adorned the Radha Krishna idol at the renowned Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan, leaving the sharks highly impressed.
Hoping to scale production and expand her reach, Champa pitched for Rs 37.5 lakh in exchange for a 2.5% equity stake. When Aman Gupta asked how she felt about running a business at her age, she responded with remarkable positivity, saying that her work brought her joy and a sense of purpose rather than feeling like a burden. Her resilience earned admiration from all the sharks.
However, when it came to investment, Vineeta Singh, Peyush Bansal, and others suggested that she grow the business organically instead of seeking external funding. Given the niche nature of her venture, they believed gradual, independent growth would be a better approach.
One of the most emotional moments came when Kunal Bahl shared how deeply he resonated with Champa’s story. “I want to invest in your business for this reason, but I’m not sure if I should,” he admitted, explaining that while he admired her journey, he wasn’t entirely confident about the business’s scalability. Eventually, he decided to opt out.
Though she walked away without a deal, she gained immense respect and admiration, proving that age is never a barrier when passion drives a business.
